Great American State Fair Forced To Close

The warning signs came before the main event. On the eve of July 4, the “Great American State Fair” on the National Mall was temporarily shut down until late afternoon because of extreme temperatures. Organizers cited safety concerns. Trump is planning a major address, similar in scale and staging to a convention speech, inauguration address or State of the Union-style performance. The motto could be described as: saluting America — verbally and visually — with Trump at the center of the stage.

But the speech is unlikely to remain purely patriotic. Political attacks are part of Trump’s standard repertoire. At the opening of the ultimately disappointing State Fair, he lashed out at his opponents as if he were back on the campaign trail. Before his return to office, he claimed, the United States had been a “dead country” and “a joke” to the whole world — a direct swipe at predecessor Joe Biden, 83.
