Ever since the U.S. commando operation in Venezuela that led to the arrest of Nicolás Maduro earlier this year, Cuba’s communist regime has feared it could be next. Washington is already tightening the economic screws by blocking oil deliveries to the island. Cryptic warnings from President Donald Trump (80) and Cuban-born Secretary of State Marco Rubio that Cuba could be “next” have only increased the pressure on Havana’s aging rulers.
Now, however, the Castro family may be considering an offer designed for one man above all: Trump. The calculation is simple. Trump loves deals. And as a former real-estate developer, he loves glittering luxury destinations even more. The reported idea: Havana could allow the development of a luxury resort with hotel towers and casinos under the Trump brand — a “Trump Island Cuba” project that would turn one of the regime’s most valuable tourist assets into a political bargaining chip. Cuba expert Peter Kornbluh told America Report: “This would certainly be a gesture worth considering!”
Trump Island Cuba Deal As Last-Ditch Offer
The possible plan centers on Cayo Santa María, an idyllic island with about 16 kilometers of white beaches on the turquoise Caribbean Sea. The resort island is connected to the Cuban mainland by a long causeway and is already one of Cuba’s top beach destinations. With major expansion, it could become an international luxury hotspot — especially if Trump’s name were attached to it.
Local hotel operators are reportedly offering empty or underused resorts to international investors after years of sanctions, crisis and collapsing tourism. Among those interested is said to be a company from the United Arab Emirates that has proposed explicit Trump branding. According to reporting cited in the uploaded material, Ali bin Haidar, head of the Abdulla Ali bin Haidar Group in Dubai, has already asked the Trump Organization about licensing rights for the name. Bizarre AI images have also appeared online showing Trump in a beach chair, sipping a mojito beside a tropical resort tower bearing his name.
Castro Grandson Seeks Deal With Trump
The unusual plan is also being viewed as an act of desperation by a wobbling regime. According to “The Sun,” it is being pushed through diplomatic backchannels by a rising figure inside Cuba’s power structure: Raúl Guillermo Rodríguez Castro, nicknamed “Raulito” or “The Crab,” the grandson of powerful former ruler Raúl Castro. Observers say he wants to avoid a direct confrontation with Washington and is looking for a negotiated solution — including at least a partial economic opening of Cuba. The “Trump Island Cuba” idea could fit that strategy.
The Trump administration denies that direct negotiations with the Castro family are underway over Cayo Santa María. Still, the report describes backchannel contacts and growing interest from investors hoping to take advantage of Cuba’s weakened position. For Havana, the offer would be a gamble: give Trump a symbol he understands — a branded island resort — in exchange for sanctions relief and survival.
But critics warn that such a deal could become a political trap for Trump, especially among anti-Castro Cuban Americans in Florida. One Cuban regime critic quoted in the reporting said a contract with Cuba’s ruling elite would not be a contract with the Cuban people, but “a deal with its jailer.” For Trump, the temptation would be obvious. For the Castro regime, the message would be even clearer: survival may now depend on speaking Trump’s language — property, branding, casinos and deals.
