A devastating Shreveport shooting has left eight children dead and two others injured following a violent domestic incident early Sunday morning in Shreveport, according to police. Authorities say the victims ranged in age from just 1 to 14 years old, making the tragedy one of the most shocking child-related mass killings in recent U.S. history.
Officers from the Shreveport Police Department responded shortly after 6 a.m. to reports of a disturbance in the 300 block of West 79th Street. However, what they found quickly escalated into a complex and widespread crime scene involving multiple locations.

The Shreveport shooting unfolded across at least three separate sites. Police spokesperson Christopher Bordelon described the situation as “extensive,” noting that the primary shooting occurred on West 79th Street, while related incidents spread to nearby Harrison Street and an adjacent home where one victim attempted to seek help.
Multiple Crime Scenes Identified
Investigators confirmed that ten people were shot during the Shreveport shooting, with eight children dying from their injuries. The two surviving victims were transported to local hospitals, although officials have not yet released details about their conditions.
“You have three different scenes,” Bordelon told reporters. “The shooting itself occurred just down the road… there’s also another shooting related to this on Harrison Street.”
Authorities believe the suspect fled the main scene shortly after the violence began. The Shreveport shooting then escalated further when the individual allegedly carried out a carjacking nearby, forcing police into a high-speed pursuit through the area.
Suspect Killed After Police Chase
According to police, officers located the stolen vehicle near the intersection of West 79th and Lynnwood. A chase ensued, ending when officers fatally shot the suspect. Officials have not yet released the identity of the individual or a confirmed motive behind the Shreveport shooting.
“The individual responsible… performed a carjacking… at which point officers got behind that vehicle,” Bordelon said during a press briefing.
Law enforcement officials emphasized that the situation was contained quickly, but the scale of the tragedy continues to shock both investigators and the local community. The Shreveport shooting has drawn national attention due to the young age of the victims and the apparent domestic nature of the incident.
Community Reeling After Tragedy
Local residents in Louisiana have expressed grief and disbelief in the wake of the Shreveport shooting. Community leaders are calling for support services for families affected and for a deeper examination of domestic violence warning signs.
While investigators continue to piece together the timeline, authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward. Meanwhile, the focus remains on supporting the victims’ families and understanding how such a catastrophic event could unfold.
The Shreveport shooting remains under active investigation, with officials promising further updates as more details become available.
