The successful splashdown of the Orion capsule on Friday, April 10, 2026, has solidified the Artemis 2 Mission Success as a turning point for American space exploration. After racing through the atmosphere at 40,000 km/h and enduring temperatures of 5,000°F, the four-member crew—Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen—safely landed in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of San Diego.
This mission has proven that NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) and Orion spacecraft are capable of carrying humans safely to the lunar neighborhood and back. However, the victory is bittersweet, as the roadmap for the first human Moon landing in over 50 years is currently being rewritten.

The Reprofiled Artemis 3: Due to these delays, NASA officially announced in early 2026 that Artemis 3 will no longer attempt a Moon landing. Instead, it will be a crewed test mission in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) targeted for mid-2027 to test docking procedures between Orion and the Starship lander.
