A new ICE Shooting Firestorm is erupting in Maine after a 26-year-old Colombian man was shot and killed during an immigration enforcement operation in Biddeford on Monday morning. The shooting happened shortly after 7 a.m. and involved U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, according to local officials. Biddeford police said their role was limited to securing the scene. ICE and the Department of Homeland Security initially did not provide a detailed public account of what happened, leaving lawmakers, local leaders and immigrant-rights groups demanding answers.

ICE Agents Had No Body Cameras
The man killed was from Colombia and, according to immigrant advocates, was authorized to work in the United States and had a Social Security number. U.S. Sen. Angus King said an ICE agent fatally shot the motorist after the man allegedly “weaponized” his vehicle while agents were pursuing him for deportation. But the central facts remain disputed and incomplete. Surveillance video reportedly shows the vehicle continuing to roll after the shooting, while witnesses described a chaotic scene and said the man was bleeding from the head.
Lawmakers Demand Answers From ICE
The most explosive question: were the agents wearing body cameras? Sen. Angus King and Rep. Chellie Pingree both said they had learned little from federal agencies and believed the ICE agents were not equipped with body cameras. Pingree said she was in contact with ICE officials but had “learned very little.” King said the FBI would investigate the shooting and called for transparency. Maine’s medical examiner’s office also confirmed it had been notified of a death during a law-enforcement incident and that the body would be taken to Augusta for an autopsy.

The shooting immediately triggered protests in Biddeford. Hundreds of anti-ICE protesters marched through Main Street, gathered near City Hall and descended on Sen. Susan Collins’ local office. Demonstrators chanted “No more hate, no more fear!” and “ICE out of Maine!” Biddeford Mayor Liam LaFountain said the victim’s family and loved ones deserve compassion, dignity and, eventually, a full understanding of the circumstances that led to the tragedy. Lewiston Mayor Carl Sheline went further, saying one thing was already clear: “ICE needs to leave Maine now.”
The Maine shooting comes less than a week after another fatal ICE shooting in Houston, where Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a Mexican man who had lived in the U.S. for decades, was killed during an enforcement stop. In that case, federal officials also claimed the man used his vehicle as a weapon, while family members and witnesses demanded video evidence and an independent investigation. The two cases are now fueling a larger national debate over ICE tactics, body cameras and the use of deadly force during President Donald Trump’s intensified deportation campaign.
For critics, the Biddeford case is now another test of federal accountability. For ICE, it is another deadly encounter during a widening enforcement surge. For the victim’s family, it is a demand for one thing above all: the truth. Without body-camera footage and without a full federal explanation, the ICE Shooting Firestorm in Maine is likely only beginning.
