President Donald Trump is now blaming alleged vandals for the failure of a costly renovation project at one of the most famous sites in the nation’s capital. According to Trump, the water feature must be drained again after $16 million in repair work because saboteurs damaged the pool.
The president claimed that vandals used “chemicals” to ruin the site. He also suggested they were responsible for the latest problems with the water and the basin.

The case has now moved beyond a maintenance failure and into a political fight. Trump is presenting the Reflecting Pool problems as an act of vandalism against a national landmark. Critics are asking whether the White House is trying to shift blame away from a flawed renovation.
The situation has also produced unusual scenes around the Lincoln Memorial. National Guard members are now reportedly guarding the pool. That has turned a public monument into a security zone and added to the spectacle.
