White House chief of staff Susie Wiles is not leaving quietly. In fact, she says she is not leaving at all. Wiles, one of the most powerful figures in Donald Trump’s White House, issued a rare public denial after a report claimed she was preparing to step down after the November midterm elections. She called the story “a piece of fiction” and made clear she intends to stay.
“To be crystal clear, I am not going anywhere,” Wiles wrote on X, according to the New York Post. “I am honored and proud to serve President Trump, proud of our team and remain fully committed to advancing his agenda on behalf of the American people.”
The denial came after the Daily Mail reported that Wiles could leave after the midterms, citing alleged tensions inside the administration. The report said Wiles was upset over recent personnel decisions, including Trump’s selection of Florida real estate executive Bill Pulte as acting director of national intelligence. Wiles rejected that claim as false.
Susie Wiles: A Rare Public Rebuke
Wiles does not usually seek the spotlight. That made her response more striking.
She accused parts of the media of trying for years to create drama around Trump. “They were wrong then, and they are wrong now,” she wrote. She also ended her message with a pointed line: “See you Monday.”
The White House chief of staff also defended Trump’s appointments. She said suggestions that she does not support the president’s appointees were “completely false and defamatory,” according to the Post. She also praised Pulte, saying she had observed how hard he works and believed he would bring the same energy to the intelligence role.
The dispute matters because Wiles is not just another aide. She has worked with Trump for more than a decade, beginning with his first presidential campaign in 2015. She later led his Save America PAC and became co-campaign manager of his successful 2024 comeback campaign.
Trump’s Gatekeeper
As chief of staff, Wiles is Trump’s gatekeeper, organizer and political enforcer. She is widely credited with helping bring more discipline to Trump’s second-term operation. If she were to leave after the midterms, it would be read in Washington as a major sign of turmoil. That is why her denial was so direct.
The controversy also comes during a difficult personal period. In March, Wiles announced that she had been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer. She said doctors had detected it early and that she was encouraged by a strong prognosis. Trump said at the time that Wiles would continue working while receiving treatment.
For now, Wiles is signaling stability. But the public fight shows how sensitive the White House remains to reports of internal strain. In Trump’s Washington, personnel stories are never only about personnel. They are about power, loyalty and who still has the president’s ear.
Wiles’s message was simple: She is staying, she backs Trump, and she wants the speculation to stop. Whether that ends the rumors is another question.
