Oklahoma Tornado Rips Through Enid: “Total Destruction”

An Oklahoma Tornado tore through northern Oklahoma on Thursday night, injuring at least 10 people and damaging homes near Enid. Officials said Friday morning that no deaths had been reported, despite flattened homes, trapped residents and a direct hit on neighborhoods near Vance Air Force Base. The National Weather Service sent teams to survey the damage after multiple tornadoes moved across the region.

Emergency crews focused on the Gray Ridge area in Enid, where the Garfield County emergency manager reported at least 10 minor injuries. Deputies launched search-and-rescue operations after reports that people were trapped under debris. Enid Mayor David Mason said some residents had been rescued from damaged areas, while state officials began coordinating assistance.

Oklahoma Tornado Leaves Homes Flattened

The Oklahoma Tornado damaged about 40 homes in Enid, according to state emergency officials cited in local reporting. Aerial video showed severe destruction in a neighborhood near Vance Air Force Base, with several homes leveled and debris scattered across residential streets. AP reported that the tornado was at least EF-2 strength, while survey teams continued working on the final rating.

The storm also forced Vance Air Force Base to pause operations after outages and damage nearby. Base officials later said power had been restored and that the installation had reopened to personnel. Facilities including the bowling center, child development center and fitness center resumed limited support operations, according to the update included in the local report.

The danger was not limited to Enid. Emergency managers in Kay County reported damage in Blackwell and Braman, including power outages, a destroyed barn and damage to one home. Officials said no injuries were reported in Braman or Newkirk. Pawnee County also reported flood damage on Highway 18 as severe storms swept through the state.

Oklahoma Tornado Cleanup Begins

The Oklahoma Tornado came during a broader severe-weather outbreak across the central United States. The Guardian reported that at least a dozen twisters were produced across the region overnight, while AP said National Weather Service teams planned to examine six possible tornado events in northern Oklahoma.

Gov. Kevin Stitt said he had spoken with local leaders and would continue working with Enid as officials assessed needs. “Please join me in praying for the Enid community,” Stitt said, according to the local report. He also urged residents to stay weather aware and take shelter immediately when directed.

Relief efforts began quickly. Enid Public Transportation crews shuttled residents from the hardest-hit areas to shelters, while the Red Cross opened support locations for storm victims. Damage assessment, debris cleanup and power restoration continued Friday as residents returned to neighborhoods carved apart by the Oklahoma Tornado.
